PHI tube end-forming and finishing

PHI tube and pipe end finishing machines

PHI tube end-forming and end-finishing machines have been developed for preparing the ends of tube and pipe ready for joining with other tube or pipe sections, valves, T-joints, or machinery.
Tube and pipe ends can be finished with either a bead or flare, or simply deburred and squared.

Each machine is capable of performing all these cold-forming functions with precision and repeatability. A change of tooling is all that is required to switch from one function to another.

  • Single flaring to SAE 37° and SAE 45°, including SAE AS4330 (formerly military spec MS33584)
  • Beading to SAE AS5131 (formerly MS33660)
  • For JIC, AN, ASME, or other standards or custom angles, get in touch

2C/CP/CPV end finishing machines

  • Designed for smaller-diameter tubes and pipes — 0.25 to 2 inches (6 mm to 5 cm)
  • Manual clamping models for low-production requirements, or air-cylinder clamping for higher production rates/difficult-to-form materials
  • Dual-speed spindles ensure the most efficient speed for the task you are performing
  • Variable-speed (0-2000 RPM) model with 3/4 HP motor and digital RPM readout available
  • Variable-speed model without air-cylinder clamping available
  • Options include: stand with tool cabinet, work light

PHI 3CPV end finishing machine

  • For tubes and pipes with outside diameters up to 3 inches (7.6 cm) and larger wall thickness tubing
  • Pneumatic clamping, cabinet stand with tooling shelf, and variable-speed motor
  • Variable-speed motor ensures optimal spindle speed for the material/end forming method, and extended blade life when deburring harder materials such as stainless steel and titanium
  • Options include: beading up to 3 inches, automatic beading function, automatic flaring function, digital tachometer, moveable base, work light

PHI 8CPV end finishing machine

  • Flares, beads, deburrs and squares tubes or pipes with outside diameters up to 8 inches (20.32 cm)
  • Air cylinder with heavy-duty linkage holds the tube or pipe firmly in place
  • Variable-speed drive ensures efficient operation regardless of material or wall thickness
  • Hard materials such as stainless steel can be deburred at slower speeds without undue wear of blades

PHI Double-flare (DF) end finishing machine

Double-lap flares give vital added-strength to joints which are more resistant to fatigue. They also achieve a better seal than single-thickness flares.

Double-lap flares formed using the PHI DF machine and tooling are free of cracks and pit marks. As the joint is designed so that the inside surface of the flare has a larger diameter than the inside diameter of the tube or pipe, it does not interfere with flow characteristics of the system.

PHI DF double-lap flaring machine

  • High-production tube and pipe end double-flare finishing
  • Produces up to 600 double lap flares per hour to precise 37° and 45° dimensions
  • Single lever operation activates the two steps required to form a double flare
  • No electricity is required – all operations are pneumatically powered
  • Also produces double thickness flares, single thickness flares and upset beads
  • All flares are within the tolerance of SAE 37° and 45°, MS 33583, AND10078/JIC*
  • Upset beading is within the tolerance of specification AND10060*

(*All tolerances are subject to material hardness and wall thickness limits)

Typical applications:

  • Thin-wall tubing connections that are subject to shock, vibration, or high internal pressures
  • Examples include automobile brake lines and critical aircraft hydraulic lines
